Trends and Challenges of Filters in Terminal Products
Abstract
In the field of terminal devices, high-performance radio frequency (RF) filters serve as core components within RF systems and exert a pivotal impact on both receiving sensitivity and transmission efficiency. With the evolution from 2G to 5G technologies, the operating frequency range has been extended from 600 MHz to 7 GHz, which increases the complexity of RF filters significantly. Rigorous system-level requirements have thus been imposed on these filters, including higher integration, better out-of-band suppression, stronger power handling capabilities, and further miniaturization. Meanwhile, lower insertion loss (IL) and all these requirements demand meticulous and intelligent trade-off balancing with number of filters and filter costs. To address these challenges, pioneering breakthroughs in resonator technologies, advanced filter synthesis methodologies, high-performance materials, and precision manufacturing processes are urgently required.
